Fractured Toes

A fractured toe is one of the most common foot injuries. Many people think nothing can be done for a broken toe, but that is not so.

The toe is examined and an x-ray is taken. If the toe is out of place, it can usually be manipulated back into place under local anesthesia in the office. The toe is then splinted until it heals.

If the toe is not out of place, it can simply be splinted or taped to the next largest toe. A stiff post-op shoe is then worn to help with splinting until the toe is healed.

If the big toe is broken, no taping is applied, but a post-op shoe or cast is used until healed.

With treatment, the pain from the injury subsides more quickly and the toe will be well aligned.
